Modems on newer Intel-based Dell laptops are actually part of the Intel High Definition Audio chipset. The modem hardware is connected to the audio controller, while the modem functionality is supplied with the modem codec on that controller.

The modem driver for Conexant modems is a closed-source driver known as "hsfmodem".
